Samsung hasn’t launched a phone for, well, several hours now. So the rumour mill’s begun churning out word that the firm’s prepping the release of yet another touchscreen mobile.

Samsung's i740: could be an entry-level touchscreen device

According to a report (http://mobil.idnes.cz/novy-wm-komunikator-s-gps-navigaci-kovovy-samsung-i740-pdx-/mob_samsung.asp?c=A080701_152428_mob_samsung_ada) by Czech-language site Idnes, the phone’s thought to be called the Samsung SGH-i740. It’s said to sport a 2.8in, 240 x 320 touchscreen and feature a, now somewhat sub-standard, three-megapixel camera. Images are stored on Micro SD cards.

No Wi-Fi. No 3G

Bluetooth with EDR is on-board for short-range data transfers, as is USB 2.0, and the phone’s rumoured to run the latest version of Windows Mobile, 6.1. The talker measures 107 x 59 x 13.8mm and its minimalist keypad also has a strange button in the middle, which looks like it could be a rotating scroll control.

But the quad-band GSM phone won’t provide support for Edge, 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity. This suggests that Samsung may try to pitch the i740 as a low-end touchscreen phone.

A launch date or price for the Samsung SGH-i740 hasn’t been uncovered yet.
