Sharp ships 19in Acquos Jr.

Sharp is determined to prove that HD TVs don't need to be huge, and has released a 19in flat-panel telly to prove it.

The LC-19D1E incorporates a Freeview digital TV tuner and, despite its size, sports both DVI and HDMI inputs to allow it to be hooked up to a range of picture sources. But while the telly's HD Ready, the 1366 x 768 resolution of its display means you're limited to 720p - 1080p and 1080i content will be downscaled.

Not convinced? No matter, Sharp's also rolling out a pair of 1080p tellies with 100Hz technology for the doubters. The LC-32XL8E and the LC-37XL8E are 32in and 37in, respectively, and kitted out in piano black.

Again, each has a Freeview tuner built in, along with three HDMI ports and SRS TruSound audio enhancement technology. They've a contrast ratio of 10,000:1.

All three TVs will appear under Sharp's Aquos brand. The LC-19D1E is available now, while the LC-32XL8E and LC-37XL8E will go in sale in a couple of weeks' time. Sharp wasn't able to say how much any of them will cost.
