Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 release date named14th August 2008 10:14 GMT
Sony Ericsson's eagerly anticipated Xperia X1 Windows Mobile-based smartphone looks set to be released early October. ![]() Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1: set to debut in October In a recent promotional email, retailer Expansys said that the phone’s “release date is set for week 41 (Oct 6-12)”. Expansys also said the "arc slider" handste will cost £590 ($1100/€740), SIM-free. The launch date is still open to some interpretation, though. An Expansys spokesman told Register Hardware that although it’s received “a couple of demo units through from Sony Ericsson”, he still didn’t have a confirmed release date - despite the email. On the plus side, the spokesman added that the arrival of demo units is a sure sign that the handset will be available to customers in the near future. Related stories
SE originally unveiled the Xperia X1 at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona back in March, when it said only that the handset would be available sometime this year. Xperia X1 has a 3in display, from under which a full Qwerty keyboard slides out. It provides 3G HSDPA and HSUPA connectivity, in addition to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
