Acer to sell 2m mini laptops in Q3

Acer reckons it will sell 2m Small, Cheap Computers during the current quarter, which comes to a conclusion at the end of the month.

Half of that total will be sold during September alone, the company said. The figures are for sales around the world.

Acer's Aspire One is currently one of the best-value SCCs you can buy, with the basic 8GB SSD, Linux model coming in at around £220, though we've seen it as low as £199 from PCWorld, Currys and Dixons Online.

There are cheaper netbooks - Asus' original Eee PC 701, for instance, which can be had for under £160 if you look around - but none sport the One's Atom processor. SCCs that do, such as Dell's new Inspiron Mini 9, tend to be priced much higher.

It's claimed Acer will release a 3G-integrated Aspire One in Taiwan in November, DigiTimes reports. Whether we'll have to wait that long for the 3G module over here remains to be seen, but a company executive last week promised the SCC's absent 3G connection software would debut soon.
