Gift card that takes pictures

Register Hardware is comfortable with the idea of store gift cards, and with compact cameras. But we have to admit that the launch of a gift card with an integrated camera took us by surprise.

Target's Digital Camera GiftCard
The Digital Camera GiftCard, launched by US retail giant Target, sports a 1.2-megapixel camera and an 8MB internal memory, which Target claimed is good for 50 pictures.
Each hi-tech card gives the recipient 40 free prints from Target’s photo department and, in addition to a USB port, the camera-cum-card has a self-timer feature.
Perhaps the card’s just a cunning way of luring the recipient into the chain’s photo development labs, or a way of making them walk around the store taking pictures of things they’d like to buy using money loaded onto the card?
Nonetheless, any value between $50 (£20/€30) and $1000 (£400/€500) can be loaded onto a Digital Camera GiftCard. The card is available now in the US.
