HP readies Intel-based 10in netbook
VIA-running Mini 2133's successor?

CES Has HP's netbook product line finally put VIA's C7-M processor behind it? Certainly, the company's latest model, the business-oriented Mini 2140 uses an Intel Atom CPU.
The 2140 also builds on the existing C7-M-based 2133 by upping the screen size to 10.1in from 8.9in. HP's offering a choice of two resolutions: 1024 x 576 - a smidge less than the netbook-standard 1024 x 600 - and 1366 x 768.

The 2140 comes with an 80GB solid-state drive, but if you want to reach the headline low price of $499 (£333/€370), you'll need to chose one with an HDD - at least it comes with sudden-drop protection.
Bluetooth 2.0 is optional too, but Wi-Fi and a 0.3-megapixel webcam are standard. So does a three-cell battery, but you'll also be able to opt for a six-cell model.
HP said it would also offer an optional docking station for the 2140, along with USB speakers and a USB multi-format DVD writer.
The Mini 2140 is due to go on sale in the US later this month, HP said. It didn't say whether the new model will join the 2133 or displace it. ®
