CES pureSilicon took the "world’s highest-density" solid-state drive, the 1TB Nitro, for a spin at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

There is nothing particularly "consumer" about this, as the SSD is aimed at applications where "data throughput and power consumption are paramount: server, networking, datacenter, supercomputing, and professional media". Presumably, the 1TB Nitro will have a hefty non-consumer price to match - we shall find out sometime in Q3 when it goes to market.

The 2.5in drive packs in 15.4GB of storage capacity per cubic centimetre - at least three times greater than any other SSD on the market, pureSilicon claims.

Nitro will also be available in 32, 64, 128, 256 and 512GB capacities. pureSilicon said it has benchmarked these drives at speeds approaching the maximum bus speed of 3Gb/s SATA. ®
