Prepare for faster Core i7 'Nehalem' desktop processors next quarter, including a 3.33GHz successor to the current Core i7 Extreme 965.
The top-of-the-line part, the 975, will replace the 965. Like the letter, the new chip will have 6.4GT/s - billion transfers per second - of QuickPath Interconnect (QPI) bandwidth and 8MB of cache. It to will cost $999 when purchased in batches of 1000 CPUs, a variety of Asian websites claim.
Q2 will also see the introduction of the Core i7 950, a 4.8GT/s part clocked at 3.06GHz that's a replacement for today's 2.93GHz i7 940 - reviewed here. Like its predecessor, the new chip will be priced at $562.
The 2.66GHz i7 920 will stay on Intel's price list, at the $284 mark, but it'll sport a revised core, version 'D0' to the current 'C0' part. ®
