The rise of the 10in, 1024 x 576 netbook continues. This time, it's LG's X120 now officially said to be out over here in April.

LG's X120 and friends: movie-friendly aspect ratios?

The X120's claim to fame is integrated HSDPA 3G and stylish looks, but we're not impressed by the shift from a 16:10 ratio display to a 16:9 one. Heck, 1024 x 600 is arguably too short a vertical resolution, and knocking 24 pixels off just to spare video-viewing punters a couple of slim black bars is daft.

However, LG did confirm the X120 - which comes pre-loaded with Windows XP - does contain a compact Linux kernel for fast booting - six seconds, LG claimed - into a basic UI for surfing the web, viewing photos and listening to music.

Other specs are standard netbook fare, including a 160GB hard drive.

In LG's native Korea, the X120 will cost KRW849,000 ($607/£416/€443) when it goes on sale later this month. Formal European and US pricing has yet to be announced. ®
