'Non-conductive vapour metallisation' for your notebook

Asus has already introduced bamboo-clad PCs, but now it has unveiled two finishes that, it claims, do more than simply beautify laptops.

Asus' Satin-brushed Aluminium surface

The first of the pair – “satin-brushed aluminium” – is apparently able to improve wireless and Bluetooth performance by eliminating interference from surrounding RF signals.

Produced using an... ahem... “non-conductive vapour metallisation” production process, the surface is scratch resistant and able to improve a notebook’s structural strength too.

The second surface – NeoWood - doesn’t offer the same wireless-boosting quality, but does provide a high-strength surface that looks and feels like real wood.

Its level of resilience also far surpasses that of regular wood, Asus claimed.

You can get the satin-brushed aluminium finish on Asus’ N81Vf, N60Sf and N51Vn machines. The N60Sf is also the only machine available in NeoWood. The cost of each surface - or the laptops they sit on - hasn’t been disclosed. ®
