Cheers for that pic, brings back emmories. All they need to do is drop the [popular at-the-time] multi-bulb headlights and legalise the mirrors and they'd be onto a cracker.

Possibly make it MX-5 sized so that the [really ather nice] current XK can stick around though.

It's nice to see the engineering department is still working.

I seem to remember Jaguar were also working on a high output 2-stroke engine too.

Let's hope it's as good as we are all hoping it is....and they fit it with a huge external speaker so you can still annoy eco warriors at traffic lights with the sound of a v12 choking seals.

Who in their right mind, spending 100k plus, on a sports car would want the poor performance of an electric car.

If you are dieing to save the planet and must buy this, ask yourself how the electricity to fuel this car is genarated: Chances are a fossil fuel powered powerplant made it possible. Also by buying this you are helping one of the worst culprits in high CO2 car manufacturing to escape EU imposed penalties.

that was for driving with; the 3-cylinder is only for providing power. And it'll be a properly designed 3-cylinder that'll run at peak efficiency.

Also, the Toyota Aygo and other similar cars are only 3-cylinder and they're nippy little things. Probaly not a V3, but it works fine.

The F-type looks/looked gorgeous. I can't believe that they didn't build that or the XK180- even almost a decade on if they made them they'd look gorgeous and modern. That's how good a design they are. Can they say the same about the S- or X-types?

V3s make little sense. The V configuration makes the problem of balancing 3 crank offsets quite hard, and if one ot the cylenders is a centre one, then you loose some of the space saving advantages. A straight 3 would be tidier, and easier to balance. A Y3 would be more fun.

A reply for the demonstrably retarded person who couldn't even think up a name and chose to hide behind an AC.

1 - the reported rumour is concerned with an entry-level sports car. Now, perhaps you can explain where your 100k figure comes from as I recall example competitors to be about a third of your finger-up your-own-arse sum.

2 - The now incredibly tedious subject of emissions at source (where the power is generated in simple fektard terms for you) has been done to death round here and you've added nothing to the debate. It's national courtesy week, so quite frankly, STFU please.

3 - Don't buy a car from a company looking to produce cleaner vehicles across the entire range. What a particularly pathetic suggestion, and an apt way to end a comment consistent in incredible ignorance.

Whether the original concept would become an entry level sports car remains to be seen but I wouldn't put money on it; Ian Callum has developed a far more modern (and superb) look for the company and this concept car - now 10 years old remember - was from a different time. Ironically the concept was kicked off under the direction of by Geoff Lawson, who was also responsible for the original S-TYPE & X-TYPE. So in a way Adam Foxton, yes you can believe the same company came out with those designs. And all three were wrong too in their heavy retrospective styling.

Only the engineering plant is in Coventry. Its built by brummies now. All of Browns lane has gone.

Im sure they will make an electric car, it only took them 15 years to make an estate / 4x4 / diesel variant and then only because Fords US powertrain division gave them the plans

Im sure they will have a TATA putput eco engine eventually

Fair point AC, Jag's corporate HQ is indeed now down the road at Gaydon in Warwickshire, only the design and R&D dept. residing at Whitley in Coventry.

Pete - thanks for the comment re the evolution of Jag's styling language. We still like the look of the F-Type though and reckoned it was a better image to illustrate the story than the wild guesses and "artists impressions" of the XE seen elsewhere!
