Asus launches Windows 7 upgrade path

But only for machines bought from now on

In preparation for the launch of Windows 7 next October, PC maker Asus has launch an upgrade programme for selected models.

The firm’s scheme is simple. You buy an eligible machine between now and the end of January 2010, and Asus will upgrade your machine’s version of Vista – Home Premium, Business or Ultimate – or XP to the corresponding Windows 7 edition.

Asus has included a mammoth list of its PC in the upgrade program, such as the EB1501 Eee Box, ET2203T Eee Top and various notebooks. But it’s worth noting that only two Eee PC netbooks are included: the 1101HA and 1005HA.

Those who buy eligible PCs and downgrade their operating systems from Windows Vista to XP will also be eligible for the upgrade offer, Asus said.

Microsoft has inked 22 October as the official Windows 7 launch date.
