Sony has unveiled plans to launch a selection of touch-sensitive Vaio PCs, following the impending release of Windows 7.

Mike Abary, Senior Vice President of Sony’s information technology products division, told website Laptop that the Japanese electronics giant sees Windows 7 as a compelling OS, boasting features that it would like to take advantage of.

While limited single-finger navigation has been available on Windows for years, Windows 7 is, according to the Microsoft, the first edition of the OS able to “fully embrace multitouch technology”.

Abary remained tight lipped about exactly which Vaio models will be the first blessed with touch-screen functionality, though the feature would definitely be a welcome introduction onto its Vaio P netbook "lifestyle PC" and Vaio JS1 all-in-one desktop PC.

The Sony executive promised to introduce some touchscreen Vaio PCs at the launch of Windows 7 – which is scheduled for release on 22 October. ®
