Q&A I'm thinking of buying a USB HSDPA modem because I travel to a fair few places that don't have Wi-Fi. But... since I have a 56Kbps modem in my laptop is a 3G modem really worthwhile?

Calling Register Hardware readers. What do you think of Apple's Time Capsule? I'm after for a network-connected HD, and this seems the best option - good router, integrated drive, only one power cable.

Does anybody make a modem/router (gateway) with a USB connection so that I don't have to use an ADSL (telephone line) for broadband?

My old Althlon XP 3200+ and GeForce 680 GT are beginning to struggle a bit - understandable, they're dinosaurs by today's standards. I want to build a new machine, mainly for gaming. But - big but - here's a list of rules: NO SLI/Crossfire and NO serious overclocking. I was thinking an E8400, 2GB DDR 2 - or DDR 3, if there's a reason - 8800GT/GTS 512, Win XP.

There is an interesting product to allow PC users to listen to/rip audio cassettes - the Ion Tape2PC USB cassette deck - so our dodgy 1980s collections can be saved to MP3 or similar before being consigned to the bin. Does anyone know of a similar product that can be used for VHS?

I have an external aerial socket in one room but want to watch TV in a room in a completely different part of the house. Indoor aerials even boosted do not give a clear enough picture and are ugly. I don't like wireless solutions and am thinking of getting some homeplug kit to use the mains wiring to link up my computing equipment.

I have been using a PC all my life. I'm a businesswoman and use PowerPoint, video conferencing, Excel, Eord etc as the core media of communication. A friend has advised that I should buy a MacBook instead of another PC laptop. Would it be wise for me to switch over to the Mac as a first time user?

I am about to retire a number of PCs at work. I have a half-dozen Compaq desktops, all 1GHz; a similar number of Dell Optiplex GX270 - three at 2.8GHz, two at 2.6GHz - and one 2.8GHz GX280, plus all the memory. Does anyone know of a motherboard that I can use to take a set of these CPUs, either the Compaqs or preferably the Dell, and make either a two or greater processor unit to give some oomph to a home-made media centre/DVR that I shall also be putting other used parts into?

Being a Register Hardware reader, I couldn't make do with Tomy's latest offerings in the baby monitor world. Not for me the simple features, standard technology and ease of use. I want more, and seeing as somehow I have managed to convince the missus that we need something a little more advanced, I set about looking for the right IP camera...

I just upgraded my Eee PC's memory to 2GB but half the machine's 4GB SSD is now eaten up by Windows XP SP2's pagefile.sys system file. It's 2GB in size, even though I've set XP to put the file on my 4GB SDHC card.
